OBESITY; ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT

Obesity is a world wide problem, eating deep into many families. There is this believe that obesity is strictly related to food intake. Obesity is an imbalance between the intake of calorie and the amount of calorie the body requires. This maybe be true, but keep your fingers cross until you finish reading this article. I don’t recommend any crash program to weight lose as 0.5-1kg is the ideal weight to lose per week.

HOW TO ASSESS OBESITY

The best way to assess if you are obese is to calculate your body mass index (BMI).

WHAT IS BMI?

BMI stands for body mass index. It is used to assess a person’s right weight.

WEIGHT HEIGHT RATIO

Body mass index should not be more than 25. It should be within 19 and 25. Multiply 25 by your height to get the ideal weight you should have.

WEIGHT CONTROL TIPS

Take more fresh products than processed food. Don’t take much fast food. You also need to check your lifestyle. What is our dietary pattern, when do we eat, what do we eat, and how do we eat.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FEEDING

You must always strive for optimum nutrition at all time. Take note of the points discussed below and you will be fine.

FREQUENCY

The ideal frequency of feeding should be three times per day. Though, in-between meals can be taken but, make sure they are green vegetables.

TIMING

Eat at least two hours before going to bed.

QUANTITY

We should be careful about the sources of what we eat and how they are prepared. Two people that decide to take potato for instance will not be exposed

ALLOWED AND NOT ALLOWED

Low in sodium: take foods that contain little sodium. Rich in fiber: vegetable in a very good source of fiber. You don’t have an excuse of not being able to carry your vegetable around because we have vegetables like cucumbers, garbage, carrot, garden egg, legumes, etc. Avoid soft drinks as they contain more sugar. Try as much as possible to avoid fruits that contain much sugar like oranges, mangos, banana etc. it should be noted that moderation is the key word. Take them in moderation and you will be fine.

Don’t take much honey as it is a complex sugar. Again, don’t take more alcohol.

Irrespective of what you think about obesity, discipline is the key word that must be in the watchword of all.

Note that prevention is the best method of taking care of every thing we want to handle, eat preventive dietary. Remember that we still need to be disciplined to treat the complication of obesity if we are to come our of it, then why not be disciplined now and avoid being obesed in the first place.
