How to tackle holiday stress
Holidays are known to be notoriously stressful. This situation is the direct opposite of what the word ‘holiday’ means. Holiday, as the name implies is suppose to be a time of rest and enjoyment but, statistics has shown that the number of people that get stressed up and fall into the trap of stress related disease in this period is more than other periods of the year.
A lot of activities are lined up without taking into account the available time. One funny thing is that these same set of people will still complain if they are asked to work with such a tight schedule in their normal day obligatory jobs.
One bitter truth is that we cannot help but live with the numerous activities that usually take place in this time of the year. The best we can do is manage the situation so that the effect(s) will not be much on us. Below are steps that we can take to minimize the stressful effects of holidays on us.
Avoid taking too much alcohol
Too much of alcohol will do you no good than break your system. I remember once having serious non-stop headache for four days after spending what I call ‘alcohol-full’ holiday. Am sure you don’t want to find yourself in this kind of mess after the holidays. So, let caution be your watch word.
Learn to say NO
Very many people have permanently deleted the word NO from their dictionary and this is doing them more harm than good. They simply cannot say no to the request from friends and well wishers inviting them for one function. Give them genuine reason why you cannot honour their invitation.
Plan ahead of time
A little planning before the holiday can help us be focused. A problem here is the problem of implementation. People find it difficult to implement their plans, one solution to this is to putting into writing and paste it on that spot of your house where your eye goes to more often.
Stay away from cell phones. Only have your phone when you want to make calls. And the kind of calls you may want to make during holidays are those casual calls you make to acquaintances. Though there are some professions that requires the professional to always be available e.g. medical doctors. These set of people should factor this in their program.
Follow these four simple steps and have a stress free holiday.
To your stress less and joyful holiday!
